I am sure that sex, drugs or rock and roll were supposed to have stopped me from getting this far – I turn 60 in September. Growing up in New York I have had plenty of – let’s call them distractions. But it seems to give you something, maybe knowing how to survive?
I am glad to have been to Studio 54 with the boys; loved and lost some great men and women and, most of all, to have survived the tail end of the last century with some great insights.
For several years, I was a construction site foreman at Battery Park City in New York. Through my construction connections, I became the New York production manager for innovative circus Cirque du Soleil.
After more distractions, marriages and divorces, the part of me that wanted to reach 60 started to work its magic and healing and slowly turned things around. I started to use more therapists to counteract my distractions. (At one time the only thing in my fridge had been vodka and Chinese herbs!)
I came to London in 1992 and trained as a healer and massage therapist. After 9/11, I thought I would put my occupation where my heart was and in 2003 I was ordained as an Interfaith Minister and spiritual counselor. On 9 June, 2006, I was introduced to Queen Elizabeth II in one of my treatment rooms. We both wore green and purple.
